“I'm not going to that party if you invite her” I frowned at Brittyn while the E Train barreled us towards Queens.
“GIRL! She's my coworker, I can't uninvite her.” She groaned.
I rolled my eyes and slumped down into my seat. “I'm not gonna dance with her then and I'm not gonna talk to her and neither will the rest of us”
Brittyn put her palm in her face and winced. “Girl I know. I didn't realize she was racist… well I don't know for sure if she's fully racist.”
I rolled my eyes and shot up. “This is the second incident of the exact same problem!”
It was really the third because that girl had done two racisms the day I met her. Brittyn squirmed and sighed.
“I don't know what to do! Like she's def racist, but I didn't know that until recently.”
I laughed. “I'm gonna tell her I don't like her if she comes, so if anything, just tell her that she can't come anymore because I think she's a racist and I don't like her because of that”
Brittyn went like :0. She knew I would. When I dislike someone, it's for real. It's not for a silly reason at all. I tolerate people that irk me all the time because I'm able to understand that they are still good people deserving of my kindness. When I have lost tolerance for someone, I mean it. Big time. Brittyn’s coworker is about to be a GI walking into a Vietnam Jungle. Ignorant, unprepared, and deeply misguided.
Brittyn thinks the right thing to do is to just tolerate her this one last time, but I disagree. I think it's more unkind to not tell her. One, because it's not nice to be a phony. Two, because we’re not giving her an opportunity to improve for the sake of everyone around her by not telling her.
What do you think?
