I have bad skin. I scar easily, I have acne scarring, I have periods of good skin health and they don't last for long. I'm 26 years old. I'm too old to have acne imho. So. I'm on the hunt for a facial subscription that's affordable for me as a single woman living nj myself and that makes a difference. I've tried Silver Mirror and loved it, but now that Glow Bar has opened up in Jersey City, I'd like to think my treks to the Flatiron Silver Mirror are coming to an end. In this essay we will discuss price, hospitality, and the experience.
The price of the standard 30 minute facial at Glow Bar is $65 + a highly encouraged $15 gratuity. With the subscription, a 4 month commitment, the 30 min facial is $60 + gratuity. This is relatively inexpensive. Silver Mirror, where I've had my last 2 facials is $99 for 30 min + gratuity and Heyday, the other facial option in Downtown does not offer 30 minutes, but instead a 50 min facial for $145 ($87 for 30 min) + gratuity. Glow Bar is the midrange option by far. The Coach to the other two's Prada and Fendi. Also! They are giving away a free skin care gift this month.
Hospitality at GlowBar Jersey City was far better than the hospitality at Silver Mirror. I was met by Becca, a sunny, fashionable young woman who cheerfully taught me their protocols. I was given a water bottle, seated on a couch, and my esthetician met me right on time. They are giving away a free serum this month. I received it in a cute bag on my way out. The facility was beautiful and bright. At Silver Mirror, I felt like a bit on an inconvenience. My esthetician was late both times and she rushed me about. I also felt very pushed to purchase products and had to decline multiple times. Silver Mirror, however, had music more appropriate for a relaxing facial. Glow Bar played pop hits while Silver Mirror felt more like a spa with ambient tracks. I personally would have preferred more spa like music, BUT I can always wear my headphones. The facilities were also very nice at Glow Bar. The rooms were clean, spacious, private, and thoughtful. I adored this set up for personal items.

The facial at GlowBar was nice. My esthetician was not overly talkative and respected my desire to relax. She gave my skin a good inspection and quickly got to work. The only difference I noticed was that they used hot towels instead of steam. I'm not certain if I prefer this, but it definitely was easier on my blowout. My curls were no match for Silver Mirror's steam machine and my blow out reverted to my natural waves by the time I left. The esthetician as Silver Mirror was more thorough in explaining the products and purposes than the esthetician at Glow Bar. My facial at Glow Bar also lasted for 45 minutes, not 30. I am in now way, shape, or form complaining about this. I am appreciative that that took the time they needed to do a good job rather than rushing it. I thought it was worth noting this since some more affordable spaces will rush you instead of doing a good job. My skin feels and looks amazing too. Again, I have objectively so/so skin. It's not quite "bad", but it's rarely "good". I scar daily and have scars, I still break out regularly though not intensely, and I have texture. I got this facial 3 days ago and I'm still seeing significant improvement in my skin. I have far less texture, I haven't broken out, and the acne I did have is all extracted and has not returned. I'd say that's a win. 🥇
I signed up for the 4 month commitment, but I will try Heyday when they open their Powerhouse Arts District location. 2 facials in a month never hurt anyone!
